David Zaharakis ready to fire…

Essendon midfielder David Zaharakis is feeling refreshed and ready for a big pre-season following an injury interrupted 2012.

The 22-year-old missed ten weeks during the middle of the season with a torn quadricep muscle returning for the final three rounds of the year.

Zaharakis, currently on a high altitude camp in Boulder, said he is is confident his body has now fully recovered from the injury.

“It is pretty much my first pre-season in four years that I have done the first full week of training in November and done the time trial the first day back,” he said.

“From the start of October I have hit the ground running and done just about every session since then, my body is feeling great at the moment.

“Hopefully this pre-season can continue like that and I can get some good form going into the year.”

Zaharakis admits he was still hampered by his injury when he returned for the final three games of the season.

“The last three games towards the end of the year I still probably wasn’t one hundred per cent,” he said.

“In that Collingwood game, the last game of the year I was starting to feel like myself again.”

The recruitment of Brendon Goddard is set to add more strength to the Bombers midfield stocks, a key focus heading into 2013.

“I think we have a good mix of inside and outside players at the moment and I think that is our real strength,” Zaharakis said.

“I think during this pre-season there is a real focus on the guys who can play on the inside turning their game outside and the guys who play on the wings can really get in and play hard in the middle.”
