Sam Dunell – Player Review

S Dunell Rd 17

Sam Dunell played a variety of roles this season, and demonstrated positive signs with his rebound, leadership and work-rate off half back.

Although he played just four matches in addition to his five games in 2012, he never looked out of place in the red, white and black, and collected 17 disposals on two occasions – first against Melbourne in round 13 and then against Brisbane six weeks later.

Dunell was elevated from the rookie list for the 2013 season and the 23-year-old shapes as a versatile option for Scott Watters ahead of next year.

Development coach Tony Micale:

“Sam did a good job in the seniors when selected to play. He has the size to play on tall and small forwards as well as a rebounding and offensive player.

Sam played four games for St Kilda this year and his form and leadership at VFL level was good. Sam also has the potential to push forward and he demonstrated this in the VFL on certain occasions.”
