BIO

The possibility of back surgery in his first pre-season threatened to derail Marcus Windhager’s debut campaign. Luckily for the Saints, that avoidance unearthed a genuine future jet.

Windhager was the unexpected gem in a rollercoaster year, making 17 commendable matches – six alongside best mate Mitch Owens – which culminated in a NAB Rising Star nomination and the club’s Best Emerging Player Award.

Often fulfilling team-oriented roles, Windhager stepped up in a tagging role in the tail-end of 2022 to keep All-Australian Tim Kelly to four touches and Brownlow medallist to just 16.

Windhager hasn’t skipped a beat this pre-season, topping the initial time trial for the club’s first-to-fourth-year players before following up with a second-placed run between the full squad a fortnight later.
