Taylor Adams and Liam Sumner: Among the Giants

With a clap of his hands, his voice straining with urgency, Taylor Adams signals Greater Western Sydney’s intent as the Giants walk up the race to meet premiership hopefuls Carlton on their own turf.

“Let’s take it to them, boys,” yells Adams, who is about to start only his second AFL match and his first at Etihad Stadium. “Really take it to them.”

The Giants’ entry onto the field ends a two-hour build-up to the contest during which the fledgling club’s focus on improvement and competing with one of the competition’s pacesetters is clear.

Although Greater Western Sydney is a club set on long-term success, short-term results are also important.
